Grito de Lares is an activity recognizing the event when Puerto Rican people met in the town of Lares Pueto Rico in September 23, 1868 to declare they were a nation and that they were no longer willing to be controlled by the domination of Spain nor its practice of slavery.

This celebration was honored by the many exempliary performances of Tribal Scream, Katia Matos(Raggeton singer/songwriter), and of legendary singer/songwriter/poet Antonio Caban Vale"El Topo". El Topo also served as the Grand Marshall of the Philadelphia Puerto Rican Day parade.
